Horizon – Reaching Far Into the Capabilities of Music Production

Project Summary

Music has been at the center of my life ever since I was born. Throughout the early part of my childhood, visiting my father’s studio led me to learn much about music production. As I grew older I began to learn and take production more seriously. I eventually started working with artists and making money off of selling hip-hop instrumentals. However, the work that I was creating felt too computerized and I wasn’t exploring my creativity and my songs weren’t reaching their full potential. With this project, I wanted to go ahead and play around with that sense of creativity by taking the time to discover and utilize Logic Pro X’s (production software) amazing capabilities. I asked myself the question of how can I create an EP that focuses heavily on making music, where it’s songs, demonstrate the software’s and my full capabilities? In response to that question, I began recording live instruments such as the guitar, bass, drums, and piano, chopping and sampling old tracks, recording sounds using a microphone and turning them into complex new instrumentals, as well as getting the chance to work with various artists, and even learn basic music theory. All of these different factors led me to make c0mplex melodic orchestras for each and every song. Within this process, I discovered a new love for the instrument of guitar and it is something that I have implemented in most of the songs I produce today. My original goal with the project was to have it heavily sample-based. However, I found that recording live instruments as well as learning how to create songs of different genres and combining that with sampled sounds was the best way to progress as a producer. The biggest challenge I was faced with through the creation of this project was the manipulation and mixing of sounds I recorded as the most important part of every song is achieving a pleasant-sounding mix and finding the right selection of sounds. Overall, It was a pleasure to get the chance to work on this project and it is something that will play an important part in my music career and the things that I learned will carry out with me as a producer and throughout the rest of my life.
