Project Summary
I’ve always been an artist. However, I’ve spent most of my time honing my skills in the visual arts – with music, often playing in the background. I’ve dabbled in piano and guitar before, but never really instilled a routine in my practice. At the beginning of my sophomore year I set out to practice guitar and piano daily (with some exceptions bc of injury etc, of course). At GCS, I also took the classes Music Theory I and II. For my March Madness project, I used my newfound experience to produce a song. In order to gain some insight from professionals I interviewed Leslie Bricusse (my grandfather’s songwriting partner; composed for Superman, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) Matt-Katz Bohen (member of the band Blondie, toured with Cyndi Lauper), and Jimmy Urine (Vocalist for Mindless Self Indulgence, Euringer). Due to a scaphoid fracture, being sick with the coronavirus, and some parts of my instruments breaking, I experienced some setbacks that limited the amount of material I was able to present slightly. Nevertheless, I worked with my best effort under the circumstances, and I am satisfied with the result. I’ve taken a liking to music production, and what I learned through my March Madness project will likely influence my career in the future. Thank you for this opportunity!
