Testing the Accuracy of Enneagram, MBTI, and Zodiac

Project Summary

I’ve always wondered about personality type indicators and whether they are able to accurately categorize a person. To test this I have gathered my types and nine of my friends’ types in MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator), Enneagram, and Zodiac. I’ve always been interested in Zodiac signs because I strongly identify with my sign (Taurus) because I possess a lot of the qualities that accordingly a Taurus should. Such as determination, ambition, and loyalty. I find the idea of characterizing to be both odd, but comforting so I want to learn why I feel this way about characterization. I’m hoping that I’ll find out the accuracy of each type indicator through the accuracy of my friends’ types and their compatibility with mine. I tested this by seeing if my friends identified with the characteristics of their types. My project started off being concerned about if my type indications were compatible with my friend’s indications. However, it turned into testing the accuracy of the three type indicators to see if the categorization of personalities can successfully be done. My project resulted in 12 reports. The first report introduces the three type indicators and explains their origins. Then there are ten type indication reports (one for each of my friends and mine) that break down three types and how many of the characteristics tied to their types are accurate to who they are. In each report, there are pie graphs that show the percentages of accurate versus inaccurate traits for each type. The last report summarizes the information from the data I collected through the accuracy of the types and what I think about categorization after completing the project. A challenge that I encountered was making sure that I remained as objective as possible. I didn’t want my prior interest in zodiac signs to blind me from the system’s flaws or inaccuracy. If I continued my project, I would want to get more people’s type indications and see what was the most accurate type indicator for them. I’d want to do this because with the small group of ten people the most accurate type indicator was almost split evenly between the three. Four people found that Enneagram was the most accurate for them, and three people found that MBTI and Zodiac were the most accurate. This points to the conclusion that one of the type indicators isn’t necessarily more accurate than another. However, with more data, if a lot of people found that one was the most accurate then that indicator is probably more reliable than the others. I hope that my project will allow others to learn more about personality type indicators and maybe spark an interest in someone about the subject.
